WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT A REAL PASHMINA SHAWL?

WHAT IS A REAL PASHMINA SHAWL?

the real pashmina is made solely from the wool of the capra hircus mountain goat, with no additional makeweight fibres such as silk or cotton. the fibre produced by this animal is the very finest and lightest cashmere.

a real pashmina shawl is a specially hand woven single piece, 1 metre by 2 metres (1.1 yards x 2.25 yards). the yarn from which it is woven is also hand spun.

both yarn and shawl are produced only in certain villages in kashmir (northern india).

WHERE DO CAPRA HIRCUS GOATS LIVE?

the fleece comes from domesticated goats that live high in the himalayas.

both yarn and shawl are produced only in certain villages in kashmir (northern india).

WHAT MAKES OUR SHAWLS SO SPECIAL?

there are many grades of cashmere, but pashmina cashmere is the finest, lightest and softest.

it can be found only in the himalayas of northern india, while other cashmeres may originate from elsewhere.

the pashmina shawl is made of the very finest and lightest cashmere from goats that live at high altitude.

because the goats live at high altitude they grow fleeces of very fine fibres, which are exceptionally warm and light.

this is an entirely renewable resource, and the goat itself is not an endangered species.

WHAT MAKES OUR SHAWLS SO DIFFERENT ?

our weavers combine old, unhurried techniques that date back to the seventeenth century with our own modern approach to colour and design

our kashmiri craftsmen are inspired by the shapes and mofits of the flower-strewn meadows of kashmir. we have also encouraged them to work from museum pieces; interpreting old embroideries to give them a contemporary feel.

each shawl is a unique piece, using the finest materials, and full of energy – as handmade work at its best can be.

HOW MUCH DO YOUR PASHMINAS COST?

our shawls start from £485, inclusive of vat (uk sales tax of 20%). for our non-eu customers, vat is deducted at source.
