RENAISSANCE SHAWLS: OLIVE OIL GREEN AND WHITE
‘there ought to be Gardens … things of beautie … Juniper … orenge trees; and sweet Marjoram … Honey suckles; Strawberries; Raspes’ (Bacon, 1625)
these extraordinary shawls take us back to old embroidery techniques, completely reversible, perfectly executed. it’s not usual to find work of this quality, but we commissioned it a long time ago – and here they are – with riots of enchanting flowers finely embroidered in many colours.
all hand woven and embroidered in miniature beautiful detail.
main: astonishingly light yet complex double-sided jamawar shawl of fresh green olive oil, exquisitely embroidered in many colours including pinks and greens, red, and blue violet.
as a pompom: clear white shawl, also double-sided, embroidered with a complex border and fabulous paisley, pinks, a little burgundy, violet and mint.
contemporary design inspired by 17th century tradition.
